Live
With Prince Far-I This was Prince Far-I's
last live show and certainly the most unusual, varying from
his early hard-driving, almost rock-steady style on "Throw
Away Your Guns" and "What You Gonna Do On Judgement
Day?", to his later style of slow conscience lyrics like
"83 Struggle" and "Foggy Road". There
is also the wonderful "Trance Dance Music". The
album also contains six extra SOA tunes, some recorded for
the BBC and others unavailable elsewhere. This is a very interesting
album, but I will say that the recording quality of the live
tracks is not very good.

Land
of a Thousand Churches Wadada's masterpiece
is a world requiem mass with Dutch philosopher Erasmus (Professor
Stanley Unwin) as your guide. In the SOA cathedral of dub,
Indian Gods sit contentedly beside Celtic witches and the
Old Testament prophet Ezeckiel (John Cooper Clarke). The Suns
of Arqa combine modern and primitive dance rhythms, religious
incantations, eastern melodies and even a part of Faure's
Requiem, and it works!
|
Alap-Joe-Jhala
A superb blend of Indian melodies, dub reggae basslines and
sheer dance power, the album begins with two tracks that have
been changing people's perspective at raves around the world.
These are followed by two epic 'Dub-Ragas' and the album continues
with the eclectic blend of instrumentation and mix of cultures
we have come to expect from the Suns of Arqa. Please note
that this album is no longer available, but a remix by Lâszlô
Hortobâgyi is on the way.

flamenco, dub reggae, etc...etc... It is a must have introduction
to the varied output of the Suns of Arqa, and includes remixes

A
Brief History of SOA A budget priced retrospective
which serves as a brilliant introduction to SOA, or simply
a good way to plug those holes in your SOA collection.
This album reflects very well the diversity of SOA's music,
and emphasises that their commitment to style and spirituality
has been there from the start. |

Magiczna
Milosc Suns of Arqa are
big in Poland. This album was recorded after the Polish tour last
year. The vocals are mainly in Polish, apart from the single - produced
by John Leckie - 'Maybe You're a Rich Man' - this sounds like Oasis
in Dub!! City of Nine Gates was produced by Andrew Weatherall. The
drummer on this album is Damon Reece, ex drummer with Spiritualised
and the man who does all the drum loops for Massive Attack. Agniesszka Jablonska
is the brilliant vocalist. The CD contains three bonus tracks from
the long deleted 'Wadada Magic'. |
 |
 |
Tributey - a tribute to Professor Stanley Unwin. Stanley Unwin
and Suns of Arqa have been making music together since 1983. This
release contains all of their tracks together, along with an interview
he did for BBC Radio about his involvement with the cult band Suns
of Arqa.
The last thing
he recorded, just before his passing early in 2002, 'Troglodytes of
Mars' is now finished and is presented on Tributy, along with several
new mixes of previous material - also, a version of Tomorrow Never
Knows, writtenby Stanley's long time fan, John Lennon. Sit back and
enjoy Professor Stanley Unwin.
